Guangdong province reported 20 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 16 from previously identified asymptomatic carriers, and three new asymptomatic carriers detected on Sunday, the provincial health authority said on Monday. Eighteen of the new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases were reported in Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong, and two were reported in Foshan, according to the provincial health commission. Three new local asymptomatic infections were found, including two in Shenzhen and one in Foshan. To safeguard the upcoming gaokao, or the national college entrance examination, in-person classes for first-year and second-year students of senior high schools in Guangzhou and Foshan will be suspended between Monday and July 11. The third-year students of senior high schools will take the examination as scheduled, according to the education bureaus of the two cities. Meanwhile, all people leaving Guangzhou city will be required to present a negative result of a nucleic acid test done within 72 hours starting at 10 pm on Monday, according to the city's authority for COVID-19 epidemic control. To ensure the operation of trucks, venues will be established to provide free nucleic acid tests to truck drivers working on major routes. |
